Wine Spectator 91
"Really pretty, with blackberry and cherry character. Medium- to full-bodied, with good fruit and a medium finish. Lots going on. Yummy. Best after 2008.  2,100 cases made." - JS (Oct 31, 2006)

"Aged for a total of up to four years, including a minimum of two years in oak barrels, La Togata is a wine of robust character. It has a rich garnet color and a depth, complexity and opulence that is softened by an elegant, lingering finish.  Brunello is one of the most repsected wines in all of Italy." Mike, LCW

Winemaker Notes:

The Wine
La Togata is made of 100% Sangiovese Grosso grapes, accurately selected by picking two out of every five. They are then transferred to another cellar, where they are processed according to the old manual tradition. The wine is aged in small French oak barrels for approximately 6 months, then in Slovenian oak barrels for another 24 months. Before being placed on the market, the wine rests in bottle for a minimum of six months. The rustic stone Cellar is designed to create the best modern environment for production and storage, enabling the wine to be kept at a controlled temperature.

The Producer
Tenuta Carlina is the owner of a little winery in Montalcino (Siena), near an old post house inn, completely restored. This perfectly located landscape enjoys a full sunny exposure all day at various altitudes, which constitute the ideal setting for this Rosso. These vineyards have been producing grapes for over 20 years. The winery aims to achieve a yield of very limited quantity but undoubtedly create some very high quality fine wines. Oenologist Dott. Paolo Vagaggini controls the vineyards and all the different phases of wine making. The annual production is approximately 3000 cases.

Tasting Notes
La Togata Brunello di Montalcino is beautifully ruby red in color. A full-bodied, well-balanced and textured wine, it combines unique characteristics of grandeur and elegance with an intense and complex fruity bouquet. Persistent on the palate, this wine extracts an astonishing smooth, long finish. It is best suited for smoked meats, exotic pork dishes, pasta with rich savory sauces, or roasted wild game dishes.
