Wine Spectator 93 points
"Shows excellent structure, intensity, depth and concentration, with a mix of spice, dried currant, blackberry, mocha, cedar and licorice. Full-bodied, at points rustic and chewy, yet also elegant and refined, ending with earthy graphite tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Best from 2011 through 2020." –JL,
Winemaker Notes
The 2007 Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry weaves together five classic varietals into an opulent, complex wine. The deep, expressive aromas and flavors offer generous layers of black cherry, briary blackberry and cassis character. Enticing floral, licorice, forest loam and graphite nuances are revealed as the aromas open and the flavors expand across the velvety palate. Tapestry elegantly demonstrates the art of blending varietals to create a wine that combines lush, multilayered flavors with supple, graceful tannin structure.
Vineyard
From our historic BV Ranches No.1 and No. 2 in Rutherford, we selected specific blocks of reserve-quality grapes that would give Tapestry the combined attributes of rich character and softer tannins for earlier approachability. To complement the Rutherford Bench Cabernet Sauvignon, we selected Merlot from Beaulieu’s vineyard in the Los Carneros region, and the balance of grapes from other outstanding Napa Valley vineyards.
Winemaking
Cold soaking of the must, gentle punch-downs in open-top fermentors and in-barrel malolactic fermentation all contributed to the wine’s richly textured flavors. We selected French, American and Hungarian oak barrels (50 percent new) to weave warm vanilla and oak-spice nuances through the dark-fruit expression. Finally, Winemaker Jeffrey Stambor artistically blended the five wines together to create a tapestry of flavors.
Vintage
Ideal conditions throughout the growing season made for a smooth and easy 2007 vintage, with phenomenal wine quality. Mother Nature dealt us a good hand for crafting beautifully balanced wines. Napa Valley’s famous night fog persisted throughout ripening, assuring bright acidity, while the sunny days developed ripe flavors. Moderate summer temperatures kept the vines from becoming water stressed. The varietals ripened in textbook order, with late-maturing Cabernet Sauvignon wrapping up the harvest from late September to mid-October.
